About Amsterdam Amstel Station

Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands officially opened the Amstel Station on October 15th 1939, shortly before the German occupation. On August 16th 2004, the Ministry of Education, Arts and Sciences made the station building a national monument.

Architecturally, it’s a building in the functionalist style. Inside, you’ll find multiple original artworks. There are three murals to admire, made by Peter Alma. He designed two of the paintings specifically for the Amstel Station. The third one was transported from the Marnixbad in 2003.

Another Dutch artist, Theo van Reijn, sculpted two statues for Amstel Station. The first statue, named ‘Terugblik’ (retrospect), is made of sandstone. It forms a combined artwork together with Peter Alma’s mural. The second piece called ‘Toekomst der Spoorwegen’ (The future of the railways) is the counterpart of Terugblik. You’ll find this bronze piece above the eastern exit of the station.

On the whole, the Amsterdam Amstel train station is definitely worth a visit!

The distance of the ride

Of course, you will pay less for a shorter ride. However, our rate per kilometre decreases as the total distance increases. That is unique because most taxi companies offer a metered fare based on a fixed amount for each kilometre. As a result, you are off cheaper with Staxi than with other taxi companies. 

The type of vehicle

A ride in a regular taxi is cheaper than a ride in a taxi van. When you pre-book your taxi with us, the cost difference between a minibus taxi and a sedan is smaller than when you flag down a cab on the street or get in at a taxi rank. In that case, the driver will charge the meter rate, which is more expensive than our fixed rates.

Supply and demand
