What happens to your taxi if your flight is delayed?
Your bags are packed, your flight is over and you have a taxi waiting for you back home. But sometimes the journey does not go quite as planned. Your flight leaves later, spends longer in the air or you end up waiting for your luggage after landing.
That quickly raises one question: what actually happens to my taxi?
The short answer: if you booked a taxi from Schiphol with Staxi and provided your flight number, we keep an eye on your flight. So you do not need to contact us every time there is a delay.
We keep track of your flight
When you book a taxi from Schiphol, we ask for your flight number. There is a good reason for that.
Using that flight number, we can see when your flight is actually expected to arrive. If your plane lands later than planned, we can take that into account when planning your taxi.
The same applies if your flight arrives earlier.
So there is no need to quickly send us a message from the plane because your flight is twenty or thirty minutes late. As long as we have the correct flight number, we can follow the latest flight information.
Is the driver already waiting at Schiphol for hours?
No, and that is exactly what we try to avoid.
If a flight is heavily delayed, there is little point in sending a driver to Schiphol based on the original arrival time. That is why the planning is adjusted using the latest arrival time of your flight.
This is better for you, but also for the driver. It prevents a driver from having to wait unnecessarily at the airport while your plane is still on its way.
Once it becomes clearer when you will arrive, the ride can be planned around your actual arrival time.
What if my flight is only slightly delayed?
In most cases, you do not need to do anything.
A delay of twenty or forty minutes can easily happen during a flight. Because we monitor the flight, we can usually see this automatically.
The most important thing is to enter the correct flight number when booking. Without a flight number, we cannot automatically know which flight you are arriving on.
So always double check that your flight number is correct when making your reservation.
What if my flight is delayed by several hours?
We can also see larger delays through the flight information.
The original planning of your taxi can then be adjusted to the new situation. This does not mean that the same driver who was originally assigned to your ride has to wait for hours. Our planning team looks at the best way to carry out the ride around your actual arrival time.
For you, not much usually changes. Your taxi remains booked.
If you are told that your flight will arrive at a different airport, your flight is cancelled or your flight number changes, please contact us. Changes like these cannot always be picked up automatically through the original flight information.
My plane has landed, but I am nowhere near the exit yet
Landing does not mean you will be standing outside with your luggage five minutes later.
After landing, the aircraft still needs to reach the gate. Then you have to get off the plane, possibly go through passport control and sometimes wait quite a while at baggage reclaim.
We take that into account.
So there is no need to rush through Schiphol because your taxi was originally booked for an earlier time.
Where will my taxi be at Schiphol?
If you book a standard taxi pickup from Schiphol with Staxi, you will be collected at the Staxi Pickup Point at Departure Hall 3, Door D.
Once you have collected your luggage, you can make your way towards the pickup point.
Would you rather have someone meet you inside the terminal? During the booking process, you can choose pickup at the Meeting Point in the central arrivals hall. An additional charge applies for this option.
What if I cannot find my driver?
Sometimes everything goes according to plan, but at a busy airport it is still possible to miss each other.
First, check your ride information and make sure you are at the correct pickup location. For the standard pickup, this is Departure Hall 3, Door D.
Before pickup, you receive ride information and you can follow your driver using track and trace.
Still cannot find each other? Contact us. Our planning team can see what is happening with your ride and help you from there.
Do I have to pay extra because my flight is delayed?
With a pre booked Staxi ride, you agree on a fixed price in advance.
That means you know what the taxi ride will cost before you travel. A delay during your journey does not simply change that agreed price. That is one of the main advantages of booking in advance: after a long flight, you do not want to worry about a meter continuing to run.
What do you need to do if your flight is delayed?
Usually, very little.
The main things to remember when booking are:
enter the correct flight number;
check that your mobile number is correct;
remain reachable after landing;
contact us if your flight is cancelled or your flight details change completely.
If your flight is simply delayed and the flight number stays the same, you normally do not need to inform us about every change.
What if your flight arrives early?
Delays get most of the attention, but flights can also arrive earlier than expected.
We can see that using the flight number too. We try to adjust the planning as well as possible.
That does not mean there will be a taxi outside the moment the wheels touch the runway. You still need time to leave the aircraft, get through the airport and collect your luggage.
A delayed flight is frustrating enough
After several hours of travelling, the last thing you probably want is to start wondering what has happened to your taxi.
That is why we ask for your flight number for airport pickups and monitor the arrival time. We can focus on the planning while you focus on getting home.
So always make sure your flight details are correct when booking. That way, we have a much better idea of when to expect you at Schiphol, even when your journey does not go exactly as planned.Your bags are packed, your flight is over and you have a taxi waiting for you back home.
