Arriving at Schiphol this summer: why you should book your taxi home now
Your plane lands, your phone reconnects and the first thing you think is: finally. Two weeks in Spain, Greece or maybe even the United States are over. But before you are truly home, there are still a few things to get through. Picking up your luggage, maybe passing through customs, and then heading outside. And that last stretch is busier than ever this summer.
Schiphol is expecting more travellers this year
Schiphol is reckoning on more than 12.7 million travellers between 3 July and 30 August this year, up from about 12.4 million over the same stretch last year. Break that down and it’s somewhere around 219,000 people a day moving through the terminal one way or another. They are departing, arriving, changing planes, with roughly 71,000 of them landing on any given day. You’ll be one of them.
More people landing means more bags to wait for, longer lines at passport control when things get busy, and a taxi rank at Schiphol Plaza that’s working harder than usual. Right when you’d really rather just be in a car already.
The queue is fine, until it isn't
Land on a quiet Tuesday morning and you’re in a taxi in ten minutes, easy. Come back during the peak weeks, though, when a handful of flights empty out through customs at more or less the same time and that same queue turns into a different animal entirely, right when you have zero patience left for it: kids who fell asleep on the plane, three suitcases, jet lag creeping in.
You can skip most of that, though, and it doesn’t take much. Just book your ride home before you’ve even left for your holiday.
What booking ahead actually looks like
With Staxi, you book your taxi home before you fly out. Give us your flight number, and that’s the last thing you have to think about. We track the flight ourselves, delay or no delay. Lands an hour late? Your driver’s pickup time shifts with it automatically, no phone call needed on your end.
Once you’re through customs, you’ll know exactly where to go: the Staxi Pickup Point at departure hall 3, door D, or the Meeting Point inside if you’d rather not wander around outside looking for your car. No queue, no wondering which taxi is yours, nobody asking if you’ve got cash on you. The price you saw when you booked, weeks earlier, is the price you pay.
That’s really the whole difference with a metered ride on a busy day: traffic on the A4 or A9 doesn’t add a cent to your fare, because you already know the number.
If you're coming home with more than hand luggage
Whole family in tow? Souvenirs that didn’t fit in the suitcase anymore? Just more stuff than one car can reasonably hold? Book a taxi van instead. You simply book one ride, one fixed price and nobody has to work out who’s sitting where.
Book it before you leave, not while you're standing there tired
The best time to arrange your taxi home isn’t at the baggage belt, and it isn’t in the customs queue either. It’s now, while you’re booking flights or packing anyway. Takes two minutes, and then you don’t have to think about it again until you land.
Book your taxi from Schiphol through the Staxi App or the online booking form. That way, coming home starts the way a holiday should end, without the stress.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to book my taxi from Schiphol in advance?
You do not have to, but it is a smart move in summer. Schiphol expects many travellers during the summer holidays, which can make the taxi rank busier than usual. By booking in advance, your ride is already arranged and you know the price upfront.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Do not worry. When you share your flight details with your booking, we keep track of your flight. If you land later than planned, your driver automatically adjusts to your new arrival time.
Can I still be picked up if my flight lands early?
Yes. We also monitor your flight if it lands earlier than expected. Your driver adjusts the pickup time based on your actual arrival time.
Where do I find my Staxi at Schiphol?
You can find your Staxi at the Staxi Pickup Point at departure hall 3, door D. Prefer to meet inside? You can also choose the Meeting Point in Schiphol Plaza.
Do I pay extra if there is traffic from Schiphol?
No. With Staxi, you book for a fixed price in advance. Traffic on roads such as the A4 or A9 does not change that. You pay the price you saw when you booked.
