When you’re on holiday in The Netherlands, the Zaanse Schans is a place you definitely should visit. It’s part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH). There are multiple mills, museums and traditional Old Dutch houses to visit. You can easily spend an entire day here or combine your visit with a stopover at Volendam.
Surely, you can use public transport to travel off to the Zaanse Schans. The bus ride from Amsterdam Central Station will take you close to an hour. When you grab a taxi instead, you’ll arrive in 20 to 30 minutes! All the more time to spend at the historical mills, houses and shops!
Fixed price with each taxi reservation
We offer set prices for each booking you make with us. As a result, you’ll never have to guess or speculate about the costs of your taxi ride. In short:
✓ No metered fares
✓ No surcharges
✓ No hidden costs
Calculating your fixed rate is easy. For a pickup from Amsterdam Central Station, enter ‘Amsterdam Centraal’. You’ll see an entry with a train icon in front of it. That’s the one to select. Then for a dropoff at Zaanse Schans, enter ‘Schansend 7, Zaandam’.
We can, of course, pick you up from any location in Amsterdam for a visit to the Zaanse Schans. Our advice for your return taxi is to book it as soon as possible. Staxi is Amsterdam based, so our drivers mainly work in Amsterdam city or Schiphol Airport. We’d be happy to return you to Amsterdam after your visit to the Zaanse Schans. Just bear in mind that it’ll take the driver about 30 minutes to safely get there.

About de Zaanse Schans
There are ten big mills and a few small mills to see at Zaanse Schans. But don’t forget the historic houses, shops and museums! At de Zaanse Schans, Dutch history comes together uniquely. Among many other things, you’ll find a bakery, cheese farm, wooden shoe workshop and an old Dutch candy store at the historic town.
Did you know that many of these buildings were once located elsewhere? From 1961 to 1974, lowboy trailers transported traditional houses and some of the mills to their current location at the Zaanse Schans.
De Kat, de Bonte Koe and de Os are the only windmills that are still in the same place they were built. The other mills were either transported in parts or wholly, or completely de- and reconstructed.
Together, the buildings form an impression of what the Zaanstreek looked like back in the 17th and 18th century. Check out the short video below (in Dutch) to see an artists impression of the magnitude of the mill industry in those days. At the height of the mill industry in Holland, no less than 639 mills were active.

How much does a taxi cost?
You will get a fixed price when you pre-book a taxi with us. The exact fare depends on several things:
The distance of the ride
Of course, you will pay less for a shorter ride. However, our rate per kilometre decreases as the total distance increases. That is unique because most taxi companies offer a metered fare based on a fixed amount for each kilometre. As a result, you are off cheaper with Staxi than with other taxi companies.
The type of vehicle
A ride in a regular taxi is cheaper than a ride in a taxi van. When you pre-book your taxi with us, the cost difference between a minibus taxi and a sedan is smaller than when you flag down a cab on the street or get in at a taxi rank. In that case, the driver will charge the meter rate, which is more expensive than our fixed rates.
Supply and demand
Just like a plane ticket or a night in a hotel, the fare for the same trip can fluctuate depending on supply and demand. For example: in extreme weather conditions, such as heavy snow, the need for taxi transport increases rapidly, which makes the price rise. The same journey can also be a lot cheaper, for instance, travelling at a quiet time.
As such, Staxi works with peak and off-peak hours. Our software automatically adjusts the fares based on supply and demand. In quiet moments, you will travel even cheaper with Staxi.
Calculate the fare for your taxi rides easily with our taxi fare calculator or via the Staxi App!
How long in advance should I book the taxi?
That depends on the location where you want to be picked up. Usually, there is a minimum booking time of 60 minutes. In some areas, it is longer and in others shorter.
Tip: When you book a taxi with the Staxi App, you can see precisely where the driver is and what time he or she will arrive.
How do I pay for the taxi?
At Staxi, you can pay for your taxi in any way you like. Because we work with fixed prices, it is possible to pre-pay via your trusted payment environment, such as iDeal, Sofort or PayPal. Of course, you can also pay securely online with your credit card. Without extra costs!
