Autumn in Amsterdam: 7 places worth visiting
Summer may be over, but Amsterdam certainly doesn’t become any less beautiful. During autumn, the city’s trees turn shades of red, yellow and orange, giving the canals and parks a completely different atmosphere. Autumn is considered one of the most beautiful seasons to explore Amsterdam.

1. Vondelpark
An Amsterdam classic, but perhaps at its best during autumn.
Take a walk beneath the changing leaves, grab a coffee and escape the busy streets for a while. Its central location also makes Vondelpark easy to combine with Museumplein, Leidseplein or an afternoon of shopping.
2. The Jordaan and Amsterdam’s canals
You don’t have to travel far to see Amsterdam at its autumn best.
Walk through the Jordaan and along the Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht and Herengracht. With colourful trees, historic canal houses and fallen leaves beside the water, this part of Amsterdam looks particularly photogenic at this time of year.
3. Amsterdamse Bos
Want to swap city streets for nature? Head to Amsterdamse Bos.
There is plenty of space for walking and cycling, and you can easily spend a few hours here. This autumn, there’s also a free art route featuring seven works of art in the forest, available until 1 November.
4. Hortus Botanicus
Perfect for an autumn day when the weather can’t quite make up its mind.
Enjoy the autumn colours outside before warming up among tropical plants inside the greenhouses. From 21 September until 21 December, Hortus Botanicus puts the changing season in the spotlight throughout the garden.
5. Westerpark
Westerpark combines green spaces with restaurants, cafés and culture.
Take a walk through the park and then find somewhere cosy for a coffee, lunch or drink. The former Westergas industrial site also gives this part of Amsterdam a character of its own.
6. NDSM
For a completely different side of Amsterdam, head across the IJ to NDSM.
The former shipyard has become a cultural district filled with street art, restaurants, nightlife and industrial architecture. It has a particularly atmospheric feel during the darker autumn months.
7. Amstelpark
A little quieter than Vondelpark, Amstelpark is a great place for a relaxed autumn walk.
Explore its gardens, paths and green spaces and enjoy a break from the crowds of central Amsterdam.
